Many of you probably live in a region of the world that doesn't get snow very often - but here in Boston, snow is common from early December until the end of February and sometimes lasts until late March. But luckily - there are many things to do in the Winer!
I love to ski, although the closest ski mountain is about 40 minutes away. There are a bunch of mountains within 2-3 hours, however, and you can rent a car, take a bus, or find a friend with a car and go on ski trips, with most mountains staying open until the first week of April! Also, there are several ski trips to northern Vermont and Canada throughout the year that hundreds of students take advantage of, and you can rent skis (or a snowboard) at every mountain! The Plex (our Recreation center) offered a day ski-trip with transportation, rental equipment, and ski pass for only about 65 $!
Also, there are many places to go ice-skating. During the winter, there are occasionally ice-skating nights at Conte Forum (our athletics arena) which is free courtesy of the Undergraduate Government, and you can go to the Boston Commons and ice-skate there!
Besides, its always fun to walk around in the freshly falling snow or have a snow-ball fight with friends. The campus is really quiet and beautiful when it snows, although classes rarely get cancelled. I'm from New England, so I love snow in the Winter - but if you've never experienced it - you'll love it.
