Last Thursday night, the Fray came to Conte Forum (the basketball/hockey arena) for the annual spring concert. Since BC is a pretty big school with good resources, UGBC (the student government) is always able to bring in top flight groups to perform for the students. Past spring concert performers have included Eminem, Outkast, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Lupe Fiasco, etc. and the fall concert this year was Akon. There was a lot of buzz coming into it because names such as Passion Pit, MGMT, Drake, and Ke$ha were being thrown around. Many (including myself) were disappointed by the choosing of the Fray because we thought that it wouldn't be upbeat and fun. With that being said, I still decided to get a ticket and go check it out with a couple friends. The opening act was this group called Steel Train from New Jersey; they played mostly rock songs and the lead guitarist was definitely a character with his jumping around and various other on stage movements. After they finished up, we ended up waiting about half an hour for the Fray to get set up, and one could definitely feel some restlessness in the half-full Conte Forum. But when the Fray finally did take the stage, they put on a real good show. They played a variety of songs, including popular ones such as "You Found Me", "How to Save a Life", "She Is", "All at Once", and "Over my Head". At the end of the set, they left only to come back for an encore, in which they played two or three new songs as well as "Never Say Never". The lead singer and pianist was excellent and his vocals were so good that I could have sworn I was listening to a studio recording. All in all, it was a surprisingly good concert and I would say it was worth it. There are many cool opportunities like this available for you freshman year so be sure to check them out. Now I'm off to go write a paper for music class about the Fray's performance; thanks for reading!-Geoffrey
